Clergyman worried at proliferation of ‘money making’ churches in St Lucia

CASTRIES, St Lucia (CMC) — A senior official of the Methodist Church here has expressed concern at what he termed “money making” churches that have appeared in St Lucia virtually overnight.“I am very concerned. SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Police say sharks hindered the recovery yesterday of the body of a 26-year-old Northern Caribbean University (NCU) student — one of two beachgoers who drowned at Frenchman’s Bay in Treasure Beach, about 20 miles south of here, on New Year’s Eve.The second body, that of 26-year-old Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldier Joseph Anderson, was recovered in mid-morning by fishermen.

THE Government and Opposition continued political jousting over the states of public emergency (SOE) yesterday when Opposition Leader Dr Peter Phillips declined an invitation from Prime Minister Andrew Holness to meet on the matter today.According to Phillips, the notice of the meeting, outlined in a letter from Holness on December 31, was too short. Instead, Phillips proposed that a team from his side could be assembled for next Monday.
