Gov’t repeats promise of more teeth for dog laws

For the second time in four months the Government has announced plans to put more teeth in the law governing attacks by dogs.Minister with responsibility for education, youth and information Karl Samuda told a media briefing at Jamaica House yesterday that Cabinet has given approval for a proposed reform of the more than century-old Dogs (Liability for Injuries By) Act.

Chief justice blasts police incompetence, scolds lawyer

Two days into the trial of eight alleged members of the deadly Westmoreland-based King Valley Gang, also known as the Lawless Gang, trial judge Chief Justice Bryan Sykes was forced to blast members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the legal fraternity following an incident yesterday which forced a premature adjournment of the case.

Pier development to bring water, sewerage plant to Port Royal

RESIDENTS of Port Royal are to start benefiting from better water supply and a sewerage treatment plant as a result of the cruise pier development that is being undertaken by the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ), in partnership with the Urban Development Corporation (UDC), which is coordinating other State agencies.Port Royal currently has no sewerage treatment system, and instead has collection points, which are not consistently maintained.
